Tree Health Issues
Attacks on trees can come from many sources. It can be from biotic sources such as parasitic insects such as the lethal Emerald Ash Borer, pathogenic fungi, bacteria or viruses.
Abiotic injury may occur from road deicer, pollution, chemical trespass, mechanical injury from lawn care equipment or vehicles, lightning or fire damage.
Diagnosing which of the many culprits it may be requires knowledge and experience. Often it is combinations of abiotic and biotic assaults.
For example, a lawn mower strikes the trunk and gouges out a small chunk of tree. Living tissue at the wound site dies. Opportunistic pathogens including insects respond to weakened defenses.
